The students of the University of South Florida Saint Petersburg Campus in the US lobbied the Board of Governors of the Florida State University system to set up a Student Green Energy Fund. The student-led and student-funded initiative is used to support “green energy” projects on campus. Approved in 2011, each student pays a $1 fee per credit hour, the source of revenue for the fund. A student led committee oversees the fund and determines how it will be used by soliciting project proposals from the campus community and voting on the ones that should receive funding. Projects include refillable water bottle stations, solar energy phone charging stations and bike sharing schemes. Click here to learn more.
