Today I’m feeling annoyed at my city for not taking pedestrians seriously. Cars get seem to have priority above everything. A community misses out on so much by not putting pedestrians first where appropriate and possible (the list of social, environmental and economic benefits are too long to list here). Prioritize pedestrians on (and around) campus. Create an environment that not only makes it easy and safe for pedestrians but celebrates them. Benches, street art, music, gardens, impromptu dance parties, pop up stalls, community activities; don’t just create sidewalks, bring them to life for the benefit of all. Of course engage students and student clubs in this activity and use it as a way to discuss the social, environmental and economic benefits of the changes made on their campus and how you could put a value on similar changes made in other communities.
