CEIBS became the first business school in China to have a LEED Gold certified building. This is thanks to an initiative started in 2007 by a handful of MBA students. Over the years other students continued their work, and by 2010 one of the major goals was ensuring that the end result of a planned campus expansion project would be a green building. This has since been completed. The building relies heavily on innovative wastewater technology to maintain pools of water that surround the campus. An on site treatment facility converts 180 tonnes of waste water per day and through that the school saves 54,000 tones of potable water each year. There are also 100 bicycles on campus for use by the students.
