I am surrounded here by people who have grown up on Weet-Bix, Vegemite sandwiches and instant noodles. While they all seem to have turned out fine (I even married one of them), kids can learn a lot about the world and sustainability through the food they eat from a young age that they not only can bring with them throughout their lives, but that impacts their decisions as consumers which in turn impacts the system more widely. Feed your students…properly. Have healthy means available for free (as part of their fees). When I worked at UNESCO we had an amazing cafeteria where there was food offered from different countries daily. Many refugee communities are starting catering businesses offering amazing foods from their countries. Don’t hand over this responsibility, this influence you have, to someone else. Work directly with local companies and producers for sources. Who knows, our next batch of graduates might not just be healthier… but smarter.
