It has been said that if every consultant working on water issues in developing countries brought a bucket of water with them there would be no water crisis. What if every person who attended sustainability related events (or any topic for that matter) became part of a discussion that would move the thinking about that issue forwards? There are lots of opportunities to listen to speakers at events, both in person and now virtually. Once these important speakers present, sometimes there is a question and answer session, sometimes they will debate with other speakers, but the public is generally kept at arm’s length, there to listen and then do what they want with the information. Rethink the format of your events to make each one meaningful not just for participants, but for the topic being discussed. Move away from podium events to ones that put an emphasis on the participants as individuals, as groups.
